Antalya Municipality deploys digital sensors for Serik greenhouse farmers

The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has launched a digital agriculture project in the Burmahancı neighborhood of Serik to protect greenhouse crops from climate-related damage, specifically frost. The Agricultural Services Department has installed free temperature and humidity sensors for 700 farmers, covering approximately 2,000 decares of greenhouse area.

The system allows producers to monitor their greenhouses in real-time via mobile phones. According to Sertaç Gökhan, Head of the Agricultural Services Department, the sensors provide instant alerts when temperatures drop to dangerous levels, enabling timely intervention to prevent frost damage. The technology also monitors humidity to help farmers manage ventilation, which reduces the risk of fungal diseases and crop loss.

By maintaining optimal heat and humidity levels, the project aims to improve crop quality and reduce production costs by preventing unnecessary irrigation, excessive pesticide use, and wasted fuel. Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Büşra Özdemir visited the sites to meet with local producers and observe the implementation of the new technology.
