Antalya officials call for urgent building stock renewal

The Antalya branch of the Eastern Mediterranean Construction Contractors Federations (DAİMFED) has officially opened. During the ceremony held at the Atatürk Cultural Center, officials and industry representatives discussed the urgent need for urban renewal in Antalya.

Former State Minister and DAİMFED Honorary President Kürşad Tüzmen highlighted that while Antalya may not be the primary priority for earthquake concerns, the city faces serious issues regarding its existing building stock. Tüzmen also noted that failures in inspection mechanisms have contributed to problems in the construction sector.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin emphasized the necessity of renewing buildings constructed before the year 2000. He criticized the aesthetic quality of certain structures, stating that ‘matchbox-like buildings’ do not suit the city's panorama, and called for a more artistic approach to urban renewal. DAİMFED President Mustafa Karslıoğlu stated that the federation aims to work in the right sectors and contribute significantly to the region's development.
