COP31 preparations intensify in Antalya ahead of UN climate summit

Preparations are entering the final stages for the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31), scheduled to take place in Antalya, Türkiye, from November 9 to 20, 2026. The summit is expected to host over 100,000 participants from 196 countries, potentially triggering $2 billion in economic activity.

The conference venue will be divided into two main sections: the ‘Blue Zone’ for official negotiations and high-level meetings, and the ‘Green Zone’ for public access. To promote local culture, an ‘Antalya House’ will be established in the Green Zone to showcase the region's geographical indicated products and gastronomy to international delegates.

In anticipation of the summit, various stakeholders are engaging in preparatory activities. Türkiye İş Bankası has announced its role as a ‘Climate Supporter,’ aiming to showcase its green financing and sustainability projects. Additionally, international media programs have been conducted to highlight Türkiye's environmental initiatives, such as zero-waste projects and renewable energy systems.

Labor organizations, including HAK-İŞ, have also raised concerns regarding the ‘just transition,’ emphasizing that the costs of green and digital transformations should not be borne by workers. Meanwhile, government officials are focusing on developing a National Just Transition Strategy to support employment and skill development during this economic shift.
