Antalya prosecutor seeks life sentence for fatal sexual assault
A prosecutor is seeking aggravated life imprisonment for 74-year-old Ş. E., who is accused of assaulting 65-year-old Hatice Temel in the Korkuteli district of Antalya. The incident occurred on November 10, 2023, when Temel reportedly entered the suspect's home to visit a friend who had undergone surgery.
According to the indictment, Temel resisted sexual advances, leading the suspect to beat and sexually assault her. A forensic report established a causal link between the assault and Temel's death, stating that the physical exertion and stress from the attack triggered a sudden cardiac arrest due to her pre-existing cardiovascular disease. DNA evidence found at the scene was reportedly consistent with the suspect's profile.
Following the incident, a witness reported that the suspect stated, “I hit him on the head, I killed him.” Although the suspect was initially detained, he was later released pending trial. The victim's family is calling for justice and expressing concern over the suspect's release, seeking a swift conclusion to the legal proceedings at the Antalya 1st High Criminal Court.
