Turkey’s 2026 University Entrance Exam (YKS) TYT Session Concludes

The first session of the 2026 Yükseköğretim Kurumları Sınavı (YKS), the Turkish university entrance exam, finished on 20 June. The Temel Yeterlilik Test (TYT) was administered in 7 202 buildings and 134 675 rooms, with 340 321 candidates taking the test across 254 centres, including the first‑time locations in Antalya‑Gazipaşa, Konya‑Ilgın, Aydın‑Kuşadası and Trabzon‑Of.

Students emerging from exam halls reported that the Turkish language section felt easier than previous years, while many found the mathematics questions time‑consuming. Several candidates highlighted logistical problems: a school in Eskişehir reported a five‑minute delayed start without extra time, a girl was barred entry for refusing to remove a earring, and a few students missed the exam due to parking or timing issues. Local authorities and municipalities in Sincan, Çaycuma, and other districts provided refreshments such as simit, tea and soup for candidates and families.

Tragically, a 19‑year‑old in Gaziantep died in a traffic collision while rushing to the TYT centre. The day also saw emotional scenes as families greeted graduates with applause and encouragement. The next session, the Alan Yeterlilik Testleri (AYT), is scheduled for 21 June, followed by the Yabancı Dil Testi (YDT) later that day.
