Indonesian life insurance premiums reach Rp94.75 trillion in H1 2026
The Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI) reported mixed financial results for the first half of 2026. Total premium income reached Rp94.75 trillion, an 8.2% year-on-year increase, while the number of policies grew by 7.7% to 22.44 million. However, total industry revenue fell 11.2% year-on-year to Rp96.39 trillion, primarily due to investment losses of Rp2.47 trillion caused by market volatility in stocks, bonds, and state securities.
Despite investment pressures, the industry's protection function remains strong. Total claims and benefits paid reached Rp75.57 trillion, a 4.3% increase, benefiting 5.01 million people. Death benefit claims rose 25.5% to Rp6.50 trillion, and health claims grew 11.3% to Rp13.58 trillion.
To ensure long-term sustainability and address the protection gap, AAJI is focusing on human resource development and digital transformation. This includes training C-level executives on artificial intelligence (AI) in collaboration with PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and integrating AI into the LSP AAJI certification platform.
