Antananarivo baccalauréat success rate rises to 51.74%

In the Antananarivo province of Madagascar, the 2026 baccalauréat exam results show a success rate of 51.74%, an increase from 47.49% the previous year. This rise follows a decision by the jury to lower the admission threshold to 9.75 out of 20, compared to the 10 out of 20 required in 2025.

The decision to lower the threshold was reached after intense debate between university professors and high school teachers. While academics argued for maintaining a 10/20 threshold to preserve university standards, teachers defended a slightly lower mark, citing that not all graduates will pursue higher education and noting that students from other provinces would also compete for spots at the University of Antananarivo.

Results varied significantly across other provinces. In Toliara, the success rate fell to 39.21%, while Mahajanga saw a decline to approximately 47.9%. In Fianarantsoa, the rate remained slightly above 50%, and Antsiranana reported a 48% success rate for general education. Technical and professional tracks consistently outperformed general education series across several regions.
