Antanas Sutkus photography exhibition opens at Palace of the Grand Dukes
A photography exhibition titled ‘To Valdas Adamkus – 100’ has opened at the Palace of the Grand Dukes Museum to commemorate the centenary of former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus. The exhibition features works by renowned photographer Antanas Sutkus, many of which were previously held in the artist's private archive and have never been publicly displayed.
The collection includes official portraits of the statesman alongside rare, candid moments from his daily life in the United States and his visits to Lithuania. Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, the initiator and patron of the cultural project, noted that the exhibition honors Adamkus’s role in strengthening the restored Lithuanian state and his efforts to integrate the country into NATO and the European Union.
The relationship between Sutkus and Adamkus dates back to the Soviet era, allowing the photographer to capture the future president in natural, unposed situations throughout his life.
