Antep embroidery showcased at London Fashion Week

Traditional Antep embroidery, a craft recognized on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, was showcased at London Fashion Week. The presentation featured a Spring-Summer 2027 collection designed through a collaboration between the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and renowned fashion designer Bora Aksu.

The collection was debuted during a fashion show held at St Cyprian's Church. Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin, who spearheaded the initiative, emphasized the importance of preserving this cultural heritage and supporting women's labor. She noted that the craft provides vital support to family economies and aims to universalize the value of these traditional techniques.

Designer Bora Aksu, who visited Gaziantep to study the intricate ‘thread pulling’ technique used in the embroidery, expressed admiration for the traditional craftsmanship and the opportunity to bring the heritage to global runways.
