Anthony Albanese calls for new global order at UN

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed the UN General Assembly in New York, declaring that the post-1945 global order is “no longer fit for purpose.” He issued a warning to the United States and China, stating that the Indo-Pacific region should not be treated as a “chessboard” for superpower rivalry.

Albanese advocated for a world where “no country dominates and no country is dominated,” emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty of small and mid-sized states. He noted that Australia aims to build sovereign capabilities and partnerships within the Indo-Pacific to ensure nations have choices free from coercion regarding economic security, trade, and technology.

In a separate diplomatic development, Albanese signed a decade-long security agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The deal includes a commitment of $60 million to assist Ukraine in its defense against Russia, providing a framework for military training, the rebuilding of facilities, and potential joint manufacturing of drones and missiles.
