Anthony Albanese defends Australian multiculturalism at FECCA conference

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA) conference in Canberra, emphasizing that multiculturalism is the foundation of Australia’s prosperity and strength. During his keynote speech, Albanese defended the nation's diverse identity, suggesting that those who view Australia as a monoculture have “sight problems.”

His remarks served as a rebuttal to One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson, who previously argued that Australia should strive to be a monocultural society under a single cultural umbrella. Albanese noted that migrants contribute essential roles across all sectors, from healthcare and education to construction and business.

The conference, themed “Navigating Change, Shaping Australia. Many Stories, One Future,” takes place from 14 to 16 October. It arrives amid intensifying national debates regarding migration levels, housing affordability, and social cohesion. FECCA Chief Executive Prerana Mehta stated that while debates regarding migration numbers and living costs are legitimate, they should not diminish the recognized value of cultural diversity to the nation.
