Anthony Baffoe rules out immediate GFA presidential bid

Former Ghana national team defender Anthony ‘Tony’ Baffoe has stated that he has no immediate plans to run for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA). While Baffoe noted that the position does not currently drive him, he did not entirely rule out a future bid, suggesting his stance could change within the next six to 24 months.

His comments come amid speculation regarding the upcoming GFA presidential election, as current president Kurt Okraku approaches the end of his second term. Following a decision by Congress allowing for a third term, the leadership of Ghanaian football remains a subject of significant interest.

In a separate reflection on his playing career, Baffoe recounted the intense hostility faced by the Black Stars during a Ghana-Nigeria match in Lagos. He described a high-tension environment where players were denied access to the main pitch for warm-ups and faced threats of being poisoned, leading the squad to stay at the ambassador's residence rather than a hotel for safety.
