Anthony Bourdain Biopic 'Tony' Set for August Release

A new biopic titled Tony chronicles the early culinary career of the late chef and travel documentarian Anthony Bourdain. The film focuses on a summer in 1975 when Bourdain worked in a Provincetown dive bar, portraying his struggle to become a writer and his discovery of a passion for food. It is directed by Matt Johnson, based on a script by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe, and stars Dominic Secca (also highlighted in GQ’s Hype cover) as Bourdain. A24 will release the movie in theaters in August, and a recently issued featurette offers behind‑the‑scenes footage and interviews with the director and lead actor.

The promotional campaign includes a GQ Hype magazine cover featuring Secca, underscoring the actor’s rising profile after his breakout role in The Holdovers. The biopic aims to present a contained period of Bourdain’s life, avoiding a broader career overview, and may position itself for awards consideration if reception is strong.
