Anthony Bowens discusses AEW character arcs and storylines

Professional wrestler Anthony Bowens has addressed his recent character developments and past notable moments within All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Regarding his recent solo run following the dissolution of The Acclaimed in early 2025, Bowens clarified that his perceived chaotic trajectory—including a failed babyface run and a heel turn—was a deliberate creative decision. He explained that the storyline was designed to show his character's descent and frustration, eventually leading to his new “Pride of Pro Wrestling” persona. Bowens noted that the direction was intended to reflect real emotions of feeling underestimated by fans and colleagues.

Bowens also reflected on a significant moment from June 2023 on “AEW Rampage,” where he used a lighthearted segment to affirm his sexuality by telling Harley Cameron, “I’m gay.” He credited the idea to QT Marshall as a way to celebrate Pride Month. Bowens described the segment as a positive experience that received a strong reaction from the crowd, despite some editing for television broadcast.
