Anthony Colandrea named Nebraska starting quarterback
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has officially named Anthony Colandrea as the starting quarterback for the Cornhuskers' upcoming season opener against Ohio on September 5. Colandrea, a transfer from UNLV, enters the role with significant experience, having started 31 games across his collegiate career at Virginia and UNLV.
During his previous season at UNLV, Colandrea recorded 3,459 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, while also contributing 649 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Analysts describe him as a high-ceiling, mobile playmaker with a competitive style, though they note that his aggressive “gunslinger” approach may lead to turnovers.
The competition for the backup position remains active, with TJ Lateef and Virginia transfer Danny Kaelin both positioned in the mix for the No. 2 role.
