Anthony Dunn receives Darren Williams Award for care advocacy
Anthony Dunn, a 62-year-old peer advocate from Truro, has been honored with the Darren Williams Award at Cornwall Council’s Proud To Care Awards. The award recognizes individuals who develop initiatives that support system-wide changes and improve the quality of care delivery to service users.
Dunn works to support people with learning disabilities, helping them and their families make informed decisions regarding housing, care, and marriage. He was a founding member of the self-advocacy organization Cornwall People First and founded Citizen Checkers, an organization providing peer advocacy for individuals experiencing mental health crises.
Jenna Pulley, director of Citizen Checkers, described Dunn as an innovator and trailblazer whose influence continues to expand. His work has been noted by representatives from NHS Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for its impact on the Transforming Care programme.
