Anthony Fauci linked to CIA research pact and email deletion

Newly released documents have revealed details regarding Anthony Fauci’s former role at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and its relationship with the CIA. An undated interagency agreement shows that the CIA’s Biological Technology Center collaborated with the NIAID on “forensic microbiology” involving bioterrorism threats. Under this pact, CIA funds were used to leverage civilian research, and the CIA assisted the NIAID in obtaining pathogens. While the resulting work was considered sensitive rather than classified, the CIA maintained authority over the release of data.

Separately, emails obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation indicate that Fauci instructed an aide to permanently delete an email exchange concerning controversial gain-of-function research. These communications include a March 2012 instruction to “delete this e-mail and then delete from the deleted file.”

In a related development, Senator Rand Paul has referred Fauci to the Department of Justice for a potential criminal investigation into contempt of Congress following his refusal to answer questions during a Senate Committee hearing regarding federal responses to COVID-19.
