Anthony Fauci text messages released amid pandemic investigation

Republican Senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul have released text messages from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s government-issued phone as part of an ongoing investigation into the pandemic response. The messages, dating back to 2021, include discussions between Fauci, former CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, and former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy regarding the potential risks of COVID-19 vaccines for pregnant women.

In one exchange, Fauci noted that because some individuals experience fever and cytokine storms after the second dose, there was a theoretical association with miscarriage in the first trimester. While critics argue these texts suggest officials were aware of risks while publicly asserting vaccine safety, others note the messages reflect a scientist discussing unproven hypotheses and the need for monitoring during a period when clinical data for pregnant populations was limited.

Senator Ron Johnson has also accused career bureaucrats within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of obstructing transparency efforts led by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Johnson alleged that agency employees are sabotaging attempts to uncover information related to vaccine safety and pandemic-era policies.
