Joshua-Fury heavyweight bout faces US venue clash over UK contract

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are set to meet in a long‑awaited heavyweight showdown, but negotiations are stalled over the fight’s location. Promoter Eddie Hearn says Joshua’s contract contains a clause requiring the bout to be staged in the United Kingdom, and he has repeatedly rejected proposals to move the event to Madison Square Garden in New York.

Netflix, the streaming partner, is pushing for a U.S. venue and a Friday‑night start to maximise the American television audience, with November 20 being floated as a possible date. Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has also favoured a U.S. location to broaden viewership. Both fighters have recently recorded wins – Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in Thailand, while Joshua knocked out Kristian Prenga in Jeddah – keeping the fight’s momentum alive.

Eddie Hearn has also ruled out involvement from rival promoters TKO and Zuffa, calling any such partnership a “non‑starter.” As of now, no official date or venue has been confirmed, and the dispute over the contract clause versus the lucrative U.S. market remains the key obstacle.
