Anthony Kazmierczak sentenced to 14 months for assaulting Rep. Ilhan Omar
Anthony Kazmierczak, 56, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for assaulting U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar. The sentencing follows a guilty plea regarding the January 27 attack during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis.
During the incident, Kazmierczak used a syringe to spray a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar at Omar, shouting that she was “splitting Minnesota apart.” While the liquid contacted Omar’s clothing and skin, she was not injured and continued the event. Witnesses noted that Kazmierczak had planned the act, having secured tickets weeks in advance and sent messages to associates regarding his intent.
U.S. District Judge Joan N. Ericksen described the attack as “misguided, selfish, and inconsistent with any concept of a free or democratic society.” In addition to the prison term, Kazmierczak was ordered to serve three years of supervised release, which includes a permanent no-contact order regarding the congresswoman.
