Anthony Kazmierczak sentenced to 14 months for assaulting Rep. Ilhan Omar

Anthony Kazmierczak, 55, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for assaulting a U.S. officer. The sentence follows a plea agreement regarding an incident in January where Kazmierczak sprayed U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar with apple cider vinegar during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis.

U.S. District Judge Joan Ericksen described the attack as a ‘terrifying’ act and noted it was not a ‘spur of the moment act,’ citing that Kazmierczak had purchased tickets to the event weeks in advance and had researched Omar’s security and legal history. In addition to the prison term, Kazmierczak was sentenced to three years of supervised release, which includes a no-contact order regarding Omar.

Kazmierczak faces a pending state case as prosecutors review the federal proceedings. His criminal history includes a 1989 felony auto theft conviction and multiple arrests for driving under the influence.
