Anthony Smith issues first statement following felony arrest

Former UFC light heavyweight title contender Anthony Smith has released his first public statement following his arrest in July. Posting to social media, Smith addressed the ongoing situation, stating, “I’ll be able to tell my story someday soon. Until then… you guys just keep making it up as you go ;)” He added, “Character is revealed in chaos.”

Smith was arrested in Nebraska on three felony charges: first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, and first-degree false imprisonment. According to the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office, the allegations stem from an altercation at a bar in Gretna, where Smith is accused of threatening his wife and attempting to strike her with a vehicle.

Smith has pleaded not guilty and was released on a $500,000 bond with conditions, including a requirement to have no contact with his wife. A status hearing is scheduled for September 21. Additionally, a judge has granted Smith permission to travel to the Dominican Republic for a sporting event between late September and early October.
