Anthony Smith scheduled for Gamebred FC fight amid felony charges

Former UFC fighter Anthony Smith is scheduled to return to competition on October 2nd in the Dominican Republic, fighting Jordan Heiderman as part of a Gamebred FC heavyweight tournament. The announcement comes as Smith faces serious felony charges in Nebraska, including attempted first-degree domestic assault, terroristic threats, and false imprisonment following an arrest in July.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to the allegations and posted a $500,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison. The charges stem from an incident where he is accused of threatening his wife and attempting to run her over with a vehicle.

Gamebred FC president Lex McMahon defended the decision to book the fight, citing the principle of due process. McMahon stated that Smith is entitled to the presumption of innocence and noted that the promotion is unwilling to deprive him of his ability to provide for his family before his day in court.
