Flamengo signs Joaquín Freitas and Anthony Valencia to bolster attack
Brazilian club Flamengo has finalized the signings of two attacking players, Joaquín Freitas and Anthony Valencia, to bolster its squad following the departure of Gonzalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow.
Joaquín Freitas, a 19-year-old Argentine forward from River Plate, has signed a contract through 2031. The transfer involves a deal worth approximately US$ 15 million for 80% of his economic rights, with River Plate retaining a 20% stake in future sales. Freitas, who has also been called up to the Argentine national team, arrives in Rio de Janeiro to complete his integration into the squad.
Anthony Valencia, a 23-year-old Ecuadorian winger from Royal Antwerp, has also arrived in Brazil to undergo medical examinations. The transfer from the Belgian club is estimated at around 5 million euros. Valencia, a former youth standout at Independiente del Valle and a member of Ecuador's 2026 World Cup squad, is expected to fill the vacancy left by Plata. Flamengo is working to expedite the registration of both players ahead of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals.
