Anthropic adds in‑app browser to Claude Code desktop application
Anthropic has introduced a built‑in browser to the Claude Code desktop app for macOS, Linux and Windows. The new feature lets the Claude AI open external web pages, read their content, click links and interact with page elements without leaving the application. All browsing sessions run in a sandbox, and users can choose whether to keep sessions persistent or delete them at the end of use. A safety classifier reviews any write or click actions on external sites and requires explicit confirmation for potentially risky operations.
The update was rolled out in Anthropic’s Week 28 release (early July 2026) and is documented on the official Claude Code “Browse external sites” page. In the same announcement Anthropic extended the free‑tier availability of its Fable 5 model through 19 July 2026 for all subscription plans.
The feature aims to streamline developers’ workflows by removing the need to copy‑paste URLs between a browser and the AI assistant, allowing Claude to retrieve documentation, designs or other resources directly within the development environment.
