Anthropic adds OpenTelemetry support to Claude platform
Anthropic has launched public beta support for OpenTelemetry (OTel) across its Claude platform. This update provides developers with standardized tracing capabilities for Claude Managed Agents, the Messages API, and the Claude SDK.
The new feature allows for end-to-end visibility by generating spans that comply with industry-standard GenAI semantic conventions. These traces include critical data such as latency, token counts, model names, and tool usage records. Developers can also enable an optional full-content mode to capture the specific text of prompts, responses, and tool inputs to assist in debugging.
The implementation is designed to integrate with existing monitoring stacks, including Grafana Cloud, Sentry, Splunk, and New Relic. Traces can be routed via the Claude Console or registered through supported SDKs in languages such as Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, C#, PHP, and Ruby. This capability extends to the Model Context Protocol (MCP), closing visibility gaps in multi-step agent pipelines.
