Ben Bernanke Joins Anthropic AI Oversight Trust
Anthropic announced that former Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke has been appointed to its Long‑Term Benefit Trust, an independent governance body that advises the company on the societal and economic impacts of artificial intelligence and has the authority to appoint and remove a majority of Anthropic’s board members.
Bernanke, who led the U.S. central bank from 2006 to 2014 and guided it through the 2008 financial crisis, said, “The potential of artificial intelligence is enormous, and so is the range of outcomes. How that potential plays out will depend, in part, on the institutions we build around it.” The trust also includes social entrepreneur Neil Buddy Shah, national‑security expert Richard Fontaine and international‑affairs specialist Mariano‑Florentino Cuellar. Bernanke, a 2022 Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, will help Anthropic ensure that its advanced AI systems deliver long‑term benefits to humanity, a focus that comes amid broader debates over AI valuations and recent regulatory scrutiny.
