Anthropic brings Claude AI chatbot to Apple CarPlay

Anthropic has released a version of its Claude AI chatbot for Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to engage in voice-based conversations through their vehicle’s multimedia system. This integration follows similar moves by ChatGPT and Perplexity.

Supported by iOS 26.4, the Claude CarPlay interface is designed to minimize driver distraction. The app uses a simplified template provided by Apple, featuring a screen that indicates when the assistant is listening or responding. To ensure safety, the interface does not display conversation text on the screen; instead, users interact via audio through the car’s speakers.

Users can start new conversations or resume previous ones, benefiting from Claude’s ability to maintain context throughout a dialogue. Unlike traditional voice assistants, Claude does not currently feature a hands-free wake word; users must manually select the icon on the CarPlay screen to initiate a session. Access requires the latest version of the Claude iOS app and microphone permissions granted via the iPhone.
