Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warns of AI-driven coding automation and rapid growth

In February 2026, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei cautioned that missing AI demand forecasts by a year could push the company into bankruptcy because compute contracts are locked in long‑term. By May, Anthropic reported an 80‑fold quarterly revenue surge, closed a $65 billion Series H financing round at a $965 billion valuation, and filed a confidential IPO registration statement.

Amodei also said that AI will first eliminate coding tasks, with broader software‑engineering roles following later. Internal studies at Anthropic found that extensive use of AI coding tools can “deskill” developers, while human abilities such as product design, user‑need understanding, and critical thinking remain essential. He warned that careless AI use could erode skills, especially among students, but proper tooling could boost productivity up to twenty‑fold.

The remarks were made on podcasts hosted by entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath and were reported in outlets in Israel, India and Singapore, underscoring the global attention on Anthropic’s rapid growth and its view of AI’s impact on the software industry.
