Anthropic Claude AI launches in-country inference in India via AWS
Anthropic has launched in-country inference for its Claude AI models in India through Amazon Bedrock. This update allows Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4 to process requests within Indian borders, routing workloads between AWS regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
The move is specifically designed to meet the data residency requirements of highly regulated sectors, such as financial institutions, government bodies, and large enterprises. By keeping the inference process local, organizations can manage sensitive workloads with greater control over data movement, addressing legal and operational concerns regarding cross-border data transfers.
AWS noted that while requests may move between the Mumbai and Hyderabad regions to manage capacity, the data remains within India. Amazon Bedrock does not store model inputs or outputs by default, though certain flagged content may be reviewed under safety protocols.
