SpaceX faces stock volatility despite strong Q2 revenue growth
SpaceX is experiencing significant market volatility following its June 2026 IPO, which raised between $75 billion and $86 billion. While the stock initially surged to a peak of $225, it has since faced downward pressure, trading near its $135 opening price. This decline is attributed to the expiration of lock-up periods, allowing employees and early investors to sell shares, as well as concerns over high valuations.
Despite stock fluctuations, the company's Q2 2026 financial results showed strong growth, with revenue increasing 92% to $7.81 billion, significantly exceeding analyst expectations. The Starlink satellite internet segment remains the primary profit driver, generating $4.29 billion in revenue and reaching 12 million subscribers. Conversely, the company's AI and space launch segments continue to operate at a loss as they scale infrastructure.
Elon Musk maintains tight control over the company, holding 48.4% of shares and over 85% of voting rights through Class B structures. Looking forward, analysts at Deutsche Bank have projected that SpaceX could increase its annual recurring revenue from $31.3 billion to $100 billion, driven by aggressive expansion into AI compute and mobile services, though Bernstein has cautioned about technical challenges in the mobile sector.
