Anthropic expands into healthcare with administrative and research AI tools

Anthropic is expanding its presence in the healthcare sector by focusing on administrative infrastructure and research. The company has launched ‘Claude for Healthcare,’ a suite of tools designed to manage medical billing, coverage rules, and prior authorization. By connecting to databases such as the CMS Coverage Database and ICD-10 codes, the technology aims to accelerate clinical processes and help patients receive care more quickly.

Beyond administration, Anthropic is investing in drug discovery through a pharmaceutical research workbench and a dedicated biology lab. The company has established partnerships with entities including Banner Health, Genmab, Heidi Health, and Novo Nordisk, and has provided free AI-powered clinical search tools to doctors in approximately 100 countries.

As AI integration grows, experts suggest that medical education must evolve. While 80% of doctors already utilize AI for tasks like note-taking and research, there is a growing emphasis on training future physicians to manage AI biases while doubling down on uniquely human skills, such as empathy and bedside manner, which remain critical to patient outcomes.
