Anthropic exposes UAE-linked AI influence operation

Anthropic has identified and disrupted an influence operation allegedly linked to United Arab Emirates government officials. The operation utilized the AI model Claude to coordinate approximately 300 inauthentic social media accounts and create a front organization that mimicked the identity of a legitimate Swiss entity.

The campaign targeted narratives regarding Sudan and the Muslim Brotherhood. According to Anthropic’s threat-intelligence report, the operation also involved preparing testimony for the United Nations Human Rights Council and compiling dossiers aimed at European lawmakers, journalists, and UN officials.

While the activity spanned multiple social media platforms, Anthropic classified it as a Category Three operation, noting there was insufficient evidence to confirm the broader public or policy impact of the prepared materials.
