Anthropic faces computing power shortages despite massive cloud potential

Anthropic is reportedly struggling to secure sufficient computing power to support the development of its Claude AI models, despite potential cloud infrastructure contracts exceeding $750 billion. According to reports citing a leaked S-1 regulatory document, the company faces persistent supply constraints from major providers including Amazon Web Services, Google, and Microsoft.

This shortage highlights growing tensions in the generative AI industry, where access to data centers and specialized accelerators has become as critical as financial investment. While Anthropic has expanded its availability through Google Cloud, users must distinguish between different deployment models. An Anthropic-managed option is now available through Google Cloud, where Google handles the integration layer but Anthropic operates the API and underlying platform, meaning storage and inference may occur on infrastructure outside of Google Cloud.
