Anthropic faces criticism over Claude subscription usage claims
Anthropic is facing criticism from users on Reddit and X regarding the advertised usage limits of its high-tier Claude subscription plans. Customers claim the company has been misleading about the value provided by its $100-per-month and $200-per-month tiers.
While Anthropic markets its $200 plan as offering ‘20x’ the usage of the base Pro tier and the $100 plan as offering ‘5x’, users argue the actual scaling is closer to 1.7x. The discrepancy reportedly stems from the fact that the advertised multipliers apply only to a daily five-hour session window rather than total weekly usage.
Disgruntled subscribers suggest that after accounting for weekly caps, the higher-priced plans may actually result in a higher cost per hour of usage compared to cheaper tiers. Some users have noted that purchasing multiple lower-tier subscriptions could be more cost-effective than a single premium plan. The controversy follows mentions of an active lawsuit, Kahn v. Anthropic PBC.
