Anthropic faces lawsuit over Claude Max subscription usage limits

Anthropic is facing an expanded class-action lawsuit regarding its Claude Max subscription tiers. The dispute centers on the company’s marketing of its $100 and $200 monthly plans, which promise 5x and 20x more usage than the standard $20 Pro plan, respectively.

Plaintiffs allege that Anthropic failed to adequately disclose additional restrictions, specifically a weekly usage ceiling that was reportedly introduced in late July 2025, months after the Max plans launched. While Anthropic’s documentation states that multipliers apply “per session” with limits resetting every five hours, developers have reported hitting separate weekly caps that limit their ability to use the service, including for Claude Code interactive sessions.

The legal challenge highlights a growing tension in the AI industry as companies attempt to package unpredictable compute resources into fixed monthly subscriptions. If the plaintiffs are successful, the case could establish new precedents for how AI providers must disclose usage constraints and capacity management restrictions to subscribers.
