Anthropic reports $16.8 billion Q3 revenue ahead of potential IPO

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude AI models, has reported a significant surge in its third-quarter revenue, reaching $16.8 billion. This represents a 45% increase from the $11.6 billion reported in the second quarter. The company also informed prospective investors during a briefing in San Francisco that it has achieved profitability on an adjusted operating basis for two consecutive quarters.

These financial results come as Anthropic prepares for a highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), which is expected to occur before the end of the year and potentially precede the public listing of its competitor, OpenAI. The company is reportedly targeting a market valuation of approximately $2 trillion, though some early investors suggest the value could reach as high as $2.4 trillion once trading begins.

To support its massive scale, Anthropic has committed at least $518 billion over the next decade toward cloud services, computing, and infrastructure. While the company's rapid growth is notable, it faces intense competition from OpenAI and Meta, as well as significant scrutiny regarding the immense costs of AI development and the safety of increasingly capable models.
