Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5 with 75% price reduction

Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, a lightweight model designed for high-speed, repetitive tasks such as document summarization, data extraction, and customer assistance. The new model significantly reduces costs, with the average usage price dropping by 75% compared to the previous Haiku 4.5 version. For requests under 100,000 tokens, the price is set at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens.

This release coincides with OpenAI making GPT-6 Luna available to free users, signaling an intensifying price competition among major AI developers. While Anthropic's new model aims to compete on efficiency and cost for short-context tasks, it faces competition from models like DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, which offers different advantages for heavy document reuse through specialized caching pricing.

In internal benchmarks, Anthropic claims Haiku 5.5 shows substantial improvements in computer use and terminal tasks compared to its predecessor, outperforming GPT-6 Luna in certain specific evaluations, though these results have not been independently verified.
