Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5 with significant price cuts

Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, its fastest and most cost-effective small-scale AI model to date. Designed for high-volume, repetitive tasks such as summarization, classification, and customer support, the model offers significant price reductions. For prompts under 100,000 tokens, input costs are $0.10 per million tokens and output costs are $0.50 per million, representing a 90% decrease from the previous Haiku 4.5 version. On average, Anthropic estimates running costs will be approximately 75% lower.

Technically, Haiku 5.5 introduces adjustable reasoning effort, allowing developers to balance cost and depth of intelligence. It features a one-million-token context window and can function as a subagent alongside larger models like Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5. Benchmarks show substantial performance improvements over its predecessor, particularly in computer use and agentic coding tasks.

Alongside the model launch, Anthropic has expanded its Claude for Startups program, offering eligible early-stage companies one year of free Claude Team access and $1,000 in API credits. The model is available via the Claude platform, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
