Anthropic launches Claude Opus 5.5 with improved speed and lower costs

Anthropic has released Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in its new 5.5 family, designed to enhance performance, speed, and cost-efficiency compared to its predecessor, Opus 5.

The new model reportedly generates responses over 30% faster and reduces costs for typical workloads by approximately 40%. Pricing for input tokens has decreased from $5 to $4 per million, while output tokens have dropped from $25 to $20 per million. Cache reads have also seen a significant reduction, falling from $0.50 to $0.20 per million tokens.

In technical benchmarks, Claude Opus 5.5 shows significant improvements in agentic programming and professional knowledge tasks. In practical applications, the model successfully migrated 680,000 lines of code in less than a day and audited a 200,000-line codebase in under three hours, a task that previously took the Opus 5 model over 20 hours.
