Anthropic launches Claude Sonnet 5 on AWS Bedrock
Anthropic announced the release of Claude Sonnet 5 on 30 June 2026, making the model available through Amazon Bedrock and the Claude platform on AWS. The new Sonnet‑5 generation is positioned as an "agentic" AI, capable of planning and executing multi‑step workflows autonomously, using tools such as terminals and web browsers. It offers stronger performance on coding tasks, achieving a 63.2 % success rate on SWE‑bench Pro versus 58.1 % for its predecessor, and approaches the reasoning level of the flagship Opus 4.8 model while remaining at Sonnet‑class pricing.
Key technical updates include an updated tokenizer that can produce 10‑35 % more tokens for the same input, and the activation of Adaptive Thinking with the removal of traditional sampling parameters. Security safeguards have been strengthened to reduce hallucinations and block dangerous usage. Pricing is set at US$2 per million input tokens during an introductory period that ends on 31 August 2026. The model is accessible to all Anthropic plans, including the free tier, and integrates with AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry APIs.
Claude Sonnet 5 targets enterprise and professional workloads such as financial modeling, report generation, and large‑scale codebase analysis, offering a balance of cost, speed, and reliability for production‑level AI agents.
