Anthropic launches rupee pricing for Claude AI in India

Anthropic has introduced India‑specific subscription pricing for its Claude AI assistant, replacing the previous US‑dollar billing. The new structure lists three plans in Indian rupees and includes Goods and Services Tax (GST). Claude Pro is offered at ₹2,000 per month on an annual basis (₹2,399 for month‑to‑month), Claude Max is available in two tiers at ₹11,999 and ₹23,999 per month, and Claude Team starts at ₹2,399 per seat per month (Premium at ₹11,999). All prices are inclusive of the 18 % GST.

The change eliminates foreign‑exchange fees and simplifies payment for Indian users, who previously needed international cards or app‑store billing. India accounts for roughly 5.8 % of Claude’s global usage, making it Anthropic’s second‑largest market after the United States. Anthropic has been expanding its Indian operations, opening a Bengaluru office, hiring former Microsoft India MD Irina Ghose, and signing enterprise deals with firms such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services. Despite the new pricing, payments via India’s UPI system are still not supported.

When converted to dollars, the rupee prices are about 24 % higher than the comparable U.S. plans after excluding GST, indicating that the move is focused on payment convenience rather than a price discount. The rollout follows similar localisation efforts by competitors, notably OpenAI’s rupee‑denominated ChatGPT plans that also support UPI.
