Anthropic reports Chinese AI Kimi may be using Claude to generate responses

Anthropic has reported that the Chinese AI service Kimi may be functioning as a proxy for its own model, Claude. Reports suggest that Kimi transfers user inputs to Claude and subsequently displays Claude’s responses to its users.

This discovery has raised significant concerns regarding data privacy and the authenticity of Chinese AI development. If the service is merely relaying requests to an American-made model rather than utilizing its own proprietary technology, it poses risks for users who may be inputting sensitive information under the assumption that it is being processed by a domestic Chinese system.
