Anthropic adds Claude Fable 5 to Max and Team Premium plans, limits Pro users

Anthropic announced that, effective July 20, its flagship AI model Claude Fable 5 will become a permanent part of all Max and Team Premium subscription plans. Users on these tiers will be able to use the model up to 50 % of their weekly usage quota without additional cost.

Subscribers to the lower‑cost Pro and Team Standard plans will no longer receive a free quota. Instead they must access Fable 5 through usage‑credit pricing – $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens – and will be given a one‑time $100 credit to offset the change. Anthropic explained that the demand for Fable 5 has been “hard to predict,” prompting a phased rollout and multiple extensions of the earlier free‑access periods after a brief U.S. export‑control pause. The move comes as the model faces competitive pressure from OpenAI’s GPT‑5.6 and China’s Kimi K3, both offering comparable performance at lower cost.

Anthropic said it will continue investing in additional compute capacity to support the model’s usage under the new subscription structure.
