Anthropic Restores Global Access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 After US Lifts Export Controls

The U.S. Department of Commerce lifted export restrictions on Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 models on June 30, 2026. Anthropic redeployed Claude Fable 5 worldwide on July 1 and reinstated limited access to Mythos 5 for selected U.S. organizations, adding a new safety classifier that blocks a previously reported cybersecurity‑bypass technique in more than 99 % of cases.

At the same time Anthropic launched Claude Sonnet 5, a medium‑tier model designed for stronger agentic tasks. Sonnet 5 can plan multi‑step workflows, use browsers and terminals, and handle up to a 1 million‑token context window. Benchmarks show 63.2 % success on SWE‑bench Pro and 80.4 % on Terminal‑Bench 2.1, narrowing the gap with flagship Opus 4.8 while retaining lower pricing ($2 per million input tokens through Aug 31, then $3). The model is now the default for free and Pro users and is available via Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform, Azure, and other cloud partners.

Anthropic also introduced Claude Science, an AI workbench for life‑science research that integrates over 60 scientific databases and tools, runs on macOS and Linux, and offers reproducible, auditable research pipelines. The company is collaborating with Amazon, Microsoft, Google and other partners on a shared AI‑jailbreak severity framework to standardize risk assessment for future model releases.
