Anthropic signs lease for first Canadian data centre in Nova Scotia
AI company Anthropic has signed a lease agreement for its first Canadian data centre, located at the EverWind Fuels campus in Point Tupper, Nova Scotia. The facility is intended to power the company’s Claude models and meet increasing demand from Canadian and global users.
The broader $10-billion data centre project by Halifax-based EverWind Fuels includes over $8 billion for campus development and $2 billion for an onshore wind energy portfolio. The project is scheduled to begin with a 95-megawatt phase in late 2027, with plans to expand to a total compute capacity of 420 MW by 2028.
Both Anthropic and EverWind have committed to Canada’s Responsible Data Centre Development Principles. As part of this commitment, EverWind has pledged to fully fund electricity system network upgrade costs and utilize a closed-loop cooling system.
