Anthropic suspends rollout of consumption‑based pricing for Claude agents

Anthropic had announced that, starting 15 June 2026, the automated use of its Claude AI model – via the Agent SDK, Claude Code headless, and other programmatic integrations – would be billed on a pay‑as‑you‑go basis separate from the flat‑rate chat subscription. The plan would have given each subscription tier a monthly credit and charged excess token usage at a per‑million‑token rate.

The company later said it is suspending this new billing scheme. For now, agents run through the SDK, the non‑interactive “claude -p” command, CI/CD pipelines and third‑party tools will continue to consume the limits of the existing Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plans, with no separate consumption charges.

Anthropic noted that it will review and possibly redesign the pricing model before any future implementation, following a broader industry trend of separating interactive chat from automated workloads.
