Anthropic updates Claude Chrome extension with Cowork sessions
Anthropic has updated its Chrome extension, transforming the Claude side panel into a full ‘Cowork’ session. This update allows browser-based tasks and conversations to persist across Claude’s various platforms, including desktop, web, and mobile apps. Conversations started in the browser are now saved to the user’s history, enabling seamless transitions between different surfaces.
The enhanced extension allows Claude to interact with the current webpage using the user’s existing logins. It can perform actions such as clicking links, navigating pages, entering text, and filling out forms. This capability is intended to help users manage tasks within internal dashboards, legacy systems, and vendor portals that may not have direct integrations.
Anthropic noted that while the extension can act on behalf of the user, browser agents remain vulnerable to prompt injection. The company has implemented safeguards, such as requiring manual approval for actions like purchases or sharing personal data, though it cautioned that risks cannot be entirely eliminated. The update is currently available to Max and Team plan subscribers, with a rollout for Pro users expected in the coming weeks.
