Anthropic updates Claude with session resumption and shared memory
Anthropic has introduced several updates to its Claude ecosystem to improve continuity and context management for developers and general users.
For Claude Code users, a new /resume command has been added to the CLI tool. This allows developers to pick up previous coding sessions via an interactive picker or by using the 'claude --continue' command. Sessions are stored locally in project directories, ensuring work persists across terminal closures or task switches. The update also includes automatic session resumption when usage limits reset and tools for managing conversation flow, such as /branch and /fork to explore different problem-solving paths.
Additionally, Anthropic is implementing a shared memory system between Claude Chat and Claude Cowork. Starting August 25, information learned during standard conversations will be available to the Cowork agent when performing cloud-based tasks, and vice versa. This update allows Claude to update its memory dynamically during a conversation rather than waiting until the end of a session, providing better continuity for long-running projects and complex tasks.
