Anthropic's Claude AI chatbot arrives on Apple CarPlay

Anthropic has updated its iPhone application to enable support for Apple CarPlay, allowing users to interact with the Claude AI chatbot directly through their vehicle's infotainment system. This integration makes Claude the fifth major AI assistant available on the platform, joining ChatGPT, Perplexity, Grok, and Meta AI.

To ensure driver safety and minimize distractions, Apple imposes specific limitations on these third-party conversational apps. Interactions must be conducted via voice rather than text, and the chatbots cannot control vehicle functions or iPhone settings. Additionally, users must manually open the app within the CarPlay interface, as the system does not currently support third-party wake words.

The app allows users to view recent discussions to resume previous conversations or start new ones. While the application is available for free via the App Store, Anthropic notes that usage limits apply, with paid subscriptions available to increase capacity.
